Wakiso Giants Hands SC Villa First League Loss

Wednesday, October 3
*SC Villa 1-3 Wakiso Giants
(Kavumba Recreation Grounds)

Titus Ssematimba scored twice as his side Wakiso Giants registered a 3-1 win against Sc Villa in a Uganda Premier league game played at Kavumba Recreation grounds on Wednesday.

Ssematimba, who recently joined the Purple Sharks, got off the mark in the 9th minute before later completing his brace in the 24th minute.

Moses Aliro, another new signing for the club, also opened his account as they humbled SC Villa at Kavumba.

Umar Lutalo on the other side scored the only goal for Villa as they suffered their first league loss of the season.

In the opening exchanges, the visitors had the Lions share of the ball and it did not take them ages to score against a youthful Villa side.

Ssematimba opened the scoring, heading in home to give his side a dream start into the contest.

The Jogoos could have levelled matters moments later but Abdallah Salim shot wide before Goffin Orirwoth fluffed a one-on-one situation.

In an end to end encounter, the visitors got two quick goals in a space of four minutes. First Aliro doubled his side’s lead in the 20th minute before Ssematimba completed his brace four minutes later.

There on, despite having most of the possession in the last moments of half time, Villa failed to impress in the final third as they barely created any clear cut chance.

At the resumption of the second half, Villa introduced youngster Travis Mutyaba who brought more life into the middle of the park.

Later on, he was fouled in the area by Fahad Kawooya in the 64th minute to see the hosts get a penalty. From the resultant kick, Umar Lutalo put the ball into the back of the net, a goal that later turned to be just a consolation on the day.

For the remaining part of the game, the Purple Sharks held on till the final whistle to bag all the three points on the day.

Victory saw Wakiso Giants move to nine points and register their win in a row. They beat Police FC and Busoga United in their last two games.

It’s a good run for Alex Gitta, who is now in charge of the Purple Sharks as interim coach after Douglas Bamweyana resigned from his role recently.

For SC Villa, they suffer their first loss in the season in just two games played, having won Police FC in their first game last week.

What Next – The two sides will return to action after the international break. For Wakiso Giants, they will host Tooro United on Friday Nov 19th while Villa will be away to Express FC the following day.
