CECAFA Women U20: Nandago Extends Brilliant Form In Uganda Victory

Wednesday, November 3
*Tanzania 1-2 Ethiopia
*Djibouti 0-5 Burundi
*Eritrea 0-2 Uganda

Hadijah Nandago continued with her scoring streak as Uganda managed to overcome Eritrea on Matchday 3 of the ongoing 2021 CECAFA Women U20 Championship.

Nandago opened the scores before captain Fauziah Najjemba added the other to claim Uganda’s third win from as many games at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Wednesday.

Nandago who plies her trade at Kawempe Muslim Ladies team, has now netted the first goal in the last four games of the Uganda U20 Women team.

She scored the first goal against both Burundi and Djibouti in Cecafa and had earlier opened against Kenya at Kitende in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

She set the platform on Wednesday from close range, bundling in a rebound after Eritrean shot-stopper Rim Redie Yemane had saved an initial shot.

Najjemba got the second in the second half when she raced behind the defence before showing composure in a clinical finish off an assist from Margaret Kunihira.

Uganda dominated proceedings but to impose that ruthlessness that saw them destroy Djibouti 13-1, against a more organised side.

Ayub Khalifa’s charges rattled the crossbar from freekick, midfield enforcer Shamirah Nalugya saw her long range effort finger-tipped for corner, Najjemba’s volley from Zainah Nandede’s cross was just off the target while Shakirah Nyinagahirwa’s header was cleared off the line.

Eritrea did not ask plenty of questions on the day but showed a lot of resilience despite coming into the game after five of their players vanishing in Jinja.

The five players that escaped are Rahel Kahsay, Shamat Futsum, Yordanos Abraham, Liwam Yisehaq and Trhas Habte.

Next for Uganda is Tanzania on Saturday before ending the round robin tournament with Ethiopia.
