New Uganda Premier League entrants Gaddafi FC have officially unveiled Peter Onen as the club’s new head coach.
The gaffer agreed a one-year renewable contract with the Soldier Boyz that will see him stay at the club until November 2022.
Onen replaces Mubarak Wamboya, who has now been demoted to the first team coach role.
Wamboya had earlier on been named as head coach for the Soldier Boys but failed to impress his bosses in the opening fixtures, winning only one game, lost two and drawn the other two.
As a result, the Club management couldn’t wait for ages to find another replacement and Onen now takes over his role.
Upon his unveiling, Onen first expressed his delight before admitting that he has been yearning to return to the top flight league.
The gaffer has vowed to help the club stay.
“I am so grateful to the Gaddafi FC family for choosing me to lead this great club,” Onen said.
“My target has always been coming back to top flight competition and that is why I am here to help this club stay in top flight over the upcoming years.
“I am here to work with the team because It is a collective effort to see that we achieve the target.”
The club also confirmed that the new gaffer will work with Zungu Hassan and Wamboya Mubarak as assistant and first team coach respectively.
Ngalire Geoffrey retains his role as a trainer, former player Bajampola Asman will be the fitness coach while Ssebagala Frank will continue as goalkeeping coach.
Onen, a CAF A licenced coach comes with a lot of experience given the fact that he has been in Ugandan football for over the years.
In his last Premier League experience, Onen was at Bul FC as head coach before he left the side early last year.
He later on joined Bukedea Town Council now Blacks Power FC that plays in the Fufa Big League.
Onen finds Gaddafi FC sitted in the ninth position with five points after five league games played.
After the international break, his first task will be against another new UPL side Arua Hill next week and will be hoping to get off the mark.
