Box Off: Adinan Yasin Handed Second Chance

Lightweight pugilist Yasin Adinan will start his quest for a Champions League slot on Monday when the Box Off fights get underway.

The Box Off fights have been organised by the Uganda Boxing Federation to mainly give a chance to boxers who missed the recent National Trials.

Fighters who picked injuries through the trials have been given a second bite on the cherry in the Box Off, with a ticket to the inaugural Champions League on the card.

Adinan who represented Uganda at the World Youth Championships in Samoa, faces Mathias Kyeyune of A&B in one of the fights that will be held at COBAP.

Initially, the Mutajjazi boxer was meant to face Bisaso Steven in the National Team Trials but did not turn up over personal reasons.

There is no room for error in the Box-Off as some of the fighters who initially qualified to the Champions League may also miss their slots.

Adinan was part of the country’s squad at the Olympics Qualifiers in Senegal but despite beating Ethiopia’a Abrham Alem Gebremariam in the first hurdle, he later lost to  Abdelhaq Nadir (Morocco) at the round of 16 to miss a ticket to Tokyo.

He will be fancying his chances for a place to the Champions League, which is one of the qualification pathways to the National team ahead of the Commonwealth games next year.
