Vipers managed to leave Kakyeka Stadium with maximum points after a 2-1 win over hosts Mbarara City on Friday.

Forward Ibrahim Orit scored one of the goals against his former Bosses.

Orit, who came on for injured forward Yunus Sentamu, struck in the 74th minute to double his side’s lead after Bobosi Byaruhanga had opened the charts in the first Half.

Swalik Bebe Ssegujja scored the only goal for Mbarara City on the day they suffered their first home loss of the Season.

Coming to Kakyeka, the Venoms were winless in the last six meetings against the Ankole Lions, including a loss home and away last season.

Bobosi scored in the 9the minute to put his side ahead after collecting from Caesar Mazonki.

However the hosts could have responded moments later but Vipers will have Captain Halid Lwaliwa to thank for his timely clearance to deny Mbarara City FC from a set-piece.

Roberto Oliveira’s men could have doubled the lead before half time but Sentamu missed with just a tap in after being set up by Milton Karisa and later on, Manzoki shot wide while in-front of goal.

The second half saw another former Mbarara City forward Paul Mucuurezi come on for Bright Anukani and his introduction brought in more life in the Venoms midfield.

Moments after his introduction at the hour mark, Mucuurezi teed up Manzoki but the Congolese forward just headed wide.

With 16 minutes to go, Orit doubled his side’s lead thanks to Manzoki’s donkey work and his goal could later turn out to be the winner after Ssegujja had pulled one back for the hosts in the dying minutes.

The pair of Jude Ssemugabi and Henry Kitegenyi were well pocketed by the Vipers defence as they barely threatened on the evening.

It is a massive win for Vipers, who pick their first win at Kakyeka since 2018 and they move to 13 points in the second position, three points behind leaders KCCA FC who has a game in hand.

For Mbarara City, they suffer their first home loss of the season and they remain on 6 points from as many games played.

What Next- Mbarara City will take a trip to Lugogo as they face Police FC next week on Friday November 26th while Vipers will host URA FC at Kitende the following day.
