SC Villa picked a point against defending champions Express FC in a Kampala derby played at the Wankulukuku Stadium.

The team of inexperienced youngsters were entertaining and gave Express a huge run for their money in a goalless draw.

The major highlights came in the first half when Referee Ali Sabila denied both sides clear penalties.

Eric Kambale was brought down in the box while Express defender Sadiq Ssekyembe handled the ball in the area but Sabila waved play on during both incidents.

Travis Mutyaba dictated play while Iddi Abdulwahid and Oscar Mawa were lively against an experienced Express team that had Uganda Cranes star man Murushid Juuko.

Iddi fired wide after he was sent through by Mutyaba from a tight angle in one of Villa’s best chances.

The Jogoos defence was up to the task as well, managing to deny Eric Kambale space while Martin Kizza was taken off frustrated.

Villa goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige denied Kizza on two occasions to help SC Villa start the Mandela-era with a point.

SC Villa move to four points from three games having missed the opening games due to Licensing issues.

SC Villa was trying to recover from the 3-0 mauling against Wakiso Giants before the International Break.

It was a promising performance from the youthful Villa team and coach Petros Koukouras will remain optimistic and hope for better days ahead.
