Jacob Kiplimo Breaks World Half Marathon Record

Youngster Jacob Kiplimo set a new world half-marathon record at the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon on Sunday.

Kiplimo clocked 57 minutes and 31 seconds to erase just a second off the former record set by Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie.

Ethiopian duo of Huseydin Mohamed (59.39) and Gerba Beyata Dibaba (59.39) arrived in second and third respectively, two minutes after Kiplimo.

Kiplimo who won the World Half Marathon Championship in 2020 in Ostrava, ends a good year in which he won the Olympics Bronze medal in the Men’s 10,000m in Tokyo.

The Women’s race was won by Tsehay Gemechu of Ethiopia in 1:06:06, while Kenya’s Daisy Cherotich and Joyce Chepkemoi followed in that order.
