All Set for Women’s National Rugby 7s Showdown

The grand finale of the Women’s National Rugby 7s games will take place this Sunday, 28th, at the Kyaddondo Rugby Grounds.

The games seal the circuits that have been taking place. The 1st circuit was at Kingsway Park in Bweyogerere, the 2nd circuit was at Kyaddondo Rugby Grounds and the 3rd circuit was at Busambaga Pitch in Entebbe.

The Tier I teams are Black Pearls, Mbale Eagles, Kitgum Queens, and Avengers. The Tier II teams are the Black Diamonds, Blue Whales, Spire Lions, Mbale Eagles, Nile Leopardess, and Mbarara Lionesses.

The finale is a culmination of the four regional tournaments. The different regions played and the top 2 teams were selected from the Central and Eastern Regions.

Kitgum Queens, is the only participating team from the Northern Region. The Western region has also just welcomed the sport at a competitive level and will have the Mbarara Lionesses represent the region.

Regina Lunyolo, the Women’s Representative on the Uganda Rugby Union Executive committee expressed her gratitude towards the body for continuing to support the growth of women’s rugby in the country.

She also added, “The Women’s National Rugby 7s is an opportunity to inspire more girls to try the sport of rugby. We hope that with more tournaments like these and increased visibility, we can grow the numbers, attract sponsorship and fans to support women’s rugby in Uganda since we have a very young population with 51% of it women.”
