Masaza Cup: 10-Man Buluuli Scores Late to Deny Gomba

Masaza Cup 2021
*Gomba 1-1 Buluuli
Ssingo Vs Kabula – 3:00pm

Defending Champions Gomba conceded late in the game against 10-man Buluuli in a Masaza group game held at the Fufa Technical centre, Njeru on Thursday afternoon.

Abdul Malik scored the much needed goal in added time as Buluuli picked a point on the day with a man less.

Brian Aniku had earlier on put Gomba ahead before half time but his goal wasn’t enough to save the day.

It was a poor day for Buluuli’s Derrick Kaija who missed a penalty early on thanks to Katongole Dhaira’s save in the 38th minute before he was later sent off four minutes after the start of the second half.

Despite their dorminance, the record holders had to wait until the 24th minute to break the deadlock through Aniku, who headed in home off a well delivered corner from Lamech Mwebaze.

In search for the equaliser, Buluuli who looked more composed despite conceding first kept on launching more attacks and they came closer on numerous occasions.

John Paul Ndembe had the best chance for Buluuli but he headed wide when infront of goal.

At the restart of the second half, Buluuli were reduced to ten men with Kaija sent off for a second bookable offence.

However, despite playing against a man less team, Gomba failed to score more to kill off the game.

In the 79th minute, Buluuli will have goalkeeper Ssekamwa to thank after he made a finger tip save to deny Gomba left back Sadat Mukembo.

Later on in added time, Malik levelled matters with his long range effort from a free kick going straight into the back of the net to deny the record holders maximum points.

It is a disappointing result for Ibrahim Kirya’s side and they head into their last game of the group in a must win situation to keep their chances of Qualification alive.

For Buluuli, they still have two games ahead of the them and they will feel lucky having picked a point off Gomba.

What Next – After one rest day, Buluuli will return to action on Saturday as they face Ssingo in their third game while Gomba will be up against Ssingo on Monday in their last group game.
