Mawokota Ssaza needed two late goals as they strolled to a 3-2 win over Ssese in their first group game of the ongoing Masaza Cup tournament at Njeru.
Tonny Kiberu and Isaac Ofoyrwoth scored two late goals in the 86th and 87th minutes to see their side pick a hard fought win on the day.
Dan Kazibwe had earlier on put Mawokota into the lead with just three minutes played.
However, Ssese replied with two goals through
Andrew Mukasa and an own goal from Arnold Odongo and they were ahead before the interval.
In the second stanza, despite dorminating play, Mawokota had to wait till the dying minutes to pick a hard fought win and they did just enough.
With the game headed to Ssese’s way, Mawokota scored two quick goals in a space of two minutes to overcome the Islanders.
Kiberu scored in the 86th minute to level matters before Oforwoth made it three a minute later and his goal proved to be the winner.
Victory ensured that Mawokota bagged all the three points to get off mark and are currently second in the group. For Ssese, they lose their first game and will have to be at their best in their next game to avoid ealry exit from this year’s edition.
Wednesday is a rest day and action returns on Thursday. Ssese will take on Kooki in the first game of the day at noon while Mawokota will face Bulemeezi later in the evening.
