Denis Kaka Late Strike Denies Express at Wankulukuku

Friday, January 7
*Express 1-1 Bright Stars
*Gaddafi 1-0 Wakiso Giants

Denis Kaka Omony scored a late goal as Bright Stars picked a point to deny Express a routine win at Wankulukuku.

Express were on course for a deserved victory after they were put in front by George Ssenkaaba in the 58th minute.

But substitute Kaka capitalised on an error by Express to score in the 90th minute of the game!

Express goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa will take the big blame for the goal – He came out of the goal shouting ‘my ball’ to meet a Marvin Youngman Joseph cross which could have been defended by his captain Enock Walusimbi.

But he was just late after he was beaten on the ball by a fast Kaka who slotted into an unguarded net to silence a sizeable Express crowd.

The draw denies Express a chance to tie points with Vipers in second place while Bright Stars collects a point off the back of a recent victory against SC Villa.

Red Eagles Left Reeling

Express got the opener through Ssenkaaba when Kambale’s header off Godfrey Lwesibawa’s corner deflected off his hip to find the back of the net in the 58th minute.

But the Red Eagles will rue missed chances earlier thereafter that would have put the game to bed.

Kambale skewed a chance over the bar and earlier had his header off Deus Bukenya delivery kept out by a reflex save from an outstanding Simon Tamale.

Earlier, Martin Kizza rattled the side net when he went for power after collecting from Kambale.

Bright Stars were absent in the second half but also had a good chance that was wasted by Nelson Senkatuka in the game’s last quarter.

Ssenkatuka rounded off Mutakubwa but his effort was blocked by Deus Bukenya for a corner.

The Visitors’ other chance fell to Marvin Youngman Joseph in the first half but he was denied by Mutakubwa after neat build up that involved Ssenkatuka, Jungu Methodius and Augustine Kacancu.

Express move to 27 points while Bright Stars are now on 11 points and jump out of the red zone.
