Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa says that the first round of the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League season has been a tough start to his side.
The Red Eagles who are the defending Champions started this new season on a false note, losing two of their opening games. They lost to new league entrants Arua Hill 2-0 at home before falling to UPDF 1-0 away from home.
And Bbosa was quick to admit that it was tough start given the fact that there was no time to rest.
“It was a tough start, we didn’t have time for the players to rest after the previous season which I thought took a toll on us. The back to back league losses (Arua Hill at home and UPDF FC away) gave us a reality check and I like that we took it head on so to manage seven wins and six draws in 15 games with 27 points collected I feel it’s a fairly a good performance,” he told the Club’s media.
However ever since the back to back losses, Bbosa’s charges have picked up themselves and are now back into the title race after the first 15 games of the season.
Express have registered seven wins, drawn six and are currently third on the log with 27 points, four behind current leaders KCCA, who have a game hand.
Next up on Express’ menu will be an away game to Bright Stars on February 7th in their first game of the second round.
With more time to prepare for the next Challenge, Bbosa says that they have to do everything in the right if they are to defend the title.
“We need to have a near to perfect second round, it’s a tough target but if we have to defend the league, we have to win most of the games. We should also be more sharper upfront because to win games you have to score but overall I am positive that we shall do the needful”.
Last season after 26 games played, Express who were on 58 points were declared League Champions following a board room decision by the Federation.
And with more games coming up in the Second round, Bbosa, who guided the Red Eagles to their Seventh title will be hoping for better results as they seek to defend the league title.
