Mohammed Salah scored the only goal as Egypt finally got off the mark at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Salah volleyed home with his left foot after a decent assist from Amro El Soulia in the 70th minute to dent Guinea Bissau.

The Liverpool forward had received strong criticism after his poor show as Egypt lost to Nigeria in their opener last week.

But his only goal and performance will come as a relief for the Liverpool star as Egypt beat Guinea Bissau in Group D match at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium.

Guinea Bissau will feel hard done after their would be equaliser from Mama Balde was ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build up.

“We have a new coach and new generation. After the defeat against Nigeria we had to rearrange ourselves. We will fight in this tough competition and believe in our chances and where we can go,” said Salah who was named Man of the match.

Egypt will look to seal a place in the knockout when they face Sudan on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Nigeria beat Sudan 3-1 to progress to the last 16 thanks to a goal each from Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Simon Moses.
