Egypt managed to overcome Sudan and book a place in the knockout around at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon

Mohamed Abdelmonem’s goal proved the difference for Egypt to win 1-0 in a Group D clash at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé. 

The defender headed home Abdallah El Said’s corner in the 35th minute to spark wild celebrations for the Pharaohs.

Sudan were resilient but could not break Egypt defence at the other end of the pitch and the fulltime whistle left them packing.

Sudan finish third with just a point while Egypt end in second with six points behind group winners Nigeria.

Egypt, record AFCON winners who were knocked out by South Africa at the round of 16 in 2019 on home soil, will face the winners of Group E on Wednesday, 26 January.
