Salah has won some of the most prestigious titles in his blistering career including the Champions League and Premier League but he is yet to win silverware with the Pharaohs.

“I lost it in Gabon 2017 against Cameroon in the final, but I can assure you that it is the trophy that I want to win most. I work to win it and that is the story with all the Egyptian players present here,” Salah is quoted by CAF.

“AFCON is an extremely difficult competition and from the start, you have seen that even the best teams are struggling to win.

Egypt are yet to hit the ground running but did just enough to progress to the knockout – They lost to Nigeria before edging 1-0 against Guinea Bissau and Sudan.

Against Ivory Coast, Salah and co will be aware of the threat the Elephants pose.

“Before thinking of revenge against Cameroon, we will have to overcome several giant sides,” Salah added. “Against Cote d’Ivoire it won’t be easy, but our team is gaining momentum. It will be a very tight match.”

Egypt they have been eliminated in their last two knockout stage games at the Africa Cup of Nations (1-2 v Cameroon in the 2017 final and 0-1 v South Africa in the 2019 Round of 16).

But they have progressed on each of the previous four occasions when facing Ivory Coast in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations – two of those have came via penalty shootouts, with the second of those coming in the 2006 final (4-2 on penalties)

Ivory Coast hot striker Sébastien Haller said: “’We want to go all the way like all the teams present here. Egypt is a great football nation which is always present at these events, with genius players like Mo Salah.”

“It is a knockout match that can be played over 90 minutes or more. We are preparing for a tactical match which can also be closed.”
