Stanbic Uganda Cup: SC Villa Beat Super Eagles To Set Up Express Tie

Monday March 7th
Super Eagles 0-3 SC Villa

SC Villa advanced to the round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a comfortable 3-0 away win over Super Eagles on Monday at Pece Stadium in Gulu.

A goal each from Nicholas Kabonge, Sadam Juma and Substitute Amir Kakomo were enough as the Joggos reached the next stage.

It was a spirited performance from Petros Koukouras’ men who were on a seven- game winless run in the league.

Despite dominating for the best part of the opening exchanges, Villa had to wait until at the stroke of half time to score through Kabonge and his goal was the difference at half time.

The Jogoos who were dominant and had chances to score more but Davis Ssekajja missed with just a keeper to beat before Kabonge saw his effort kiss the cross bar.

In the 57th minute, Juma who was making his debut at the club made it two to score his first ever since joining the club in the January transfer market.

Juma kept his composure to bundle home from the spot after Benson Muhindo was fouled in the area.

With two goals ahead, the Visiting SC Villa continued with a flurry of attacks and it paid off with another goal in the closing stages through substitute Kakomo

The win ends Villa’s winless streak and as well a big boost to them as they gear up for the KCCA game this week on Saturday.

The match was initially to be played at an earlier date before it was rescheduled after Villa were involved in an accident enroute to Gulu.

They will now face rival side Express FC at Wankulukuku who have already sealed a place at the round of 32, with the dates yet to be confirmed.

The win is also a sigh of relief for Greek tactician Petros Koukouras who is reportedly set to be sacked by the club amidst poor performances.
