St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana were crowned champions of the National Girls football trophy after picking a slim 1-0 win over rivals Kawempe Muslim Secondary School at the concluded Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Games.
Elica Kanyamuza scored the all important goal for St. Noa as they took all the bragging rights in the finals held at Pece Stadium, Gulu on Monday.
It is a sweet revenge for St. Noa, who lost to the same Kawempe Muslim side in the 2019 finals held in Mbale 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw in the normal time.
As well, St. Noa win their first ever National Girls football trophy.
Throughout this year’s edition, they have been impressive and winning the trophy has not come by surprise to many.
They have scored the most goals in the competition (47) and will feel proud for walking away with the title this year, on their second successive final.
Straight away, St. Noa topped their group H, winning all their games scoring the most goals (41) in the group stages.
At the round of 16, they took care of Taggy High school with deserved 3-0 win before beating Amus College by 1-0 at the quarter finals.
In the semi finals, they edged Kings of Kings by 1-0, who had bounced back into the competition after winning a petition against Uganda martrys Lubaga.
For Kawempe, who had notable faces of the U20 Women national team players in Haddija Nandago, Shakira Nyiragahirwa and others will have to regroup and prepare for next year’s edition.
