Silverbacks In Cairo For World Cup Qualifiers Preparations

 

Uganda’s Friendlies:
*June 22: Uganda Vs Rwanda
*June 23: Jordan Vs Uganda
*June 25: Uganda Vs Egypt

Uganda Men’s National Basketball team, The Silverbacks, is already in Cairo as the side gears up for the upcoming second window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

The team comprising of four local-based players arrived in Cairo on Saturday, June 18.

The four players all play for City Oilers – James Okello, Jimmy Enabu, Tonny Drilleba and Ivan Muhwezi, and will be joined by nine other foreign-based players.

The foreign based continent is led by Phoenix Suns’ Ishmail Wainwright.

Jonathan Komagun of the Sacramento State Hornets will be making his debut for the Silverbacks.

The team is expected to spend two weeks in Cairo before setting off for Rwanda for the Qualifiers due July 1-3.

Uganda have three friendlies lined up against Rwanda, Jordan and Egypt to fine tune for the Qualifiers.

Uganda are third in Group A with a win over Nigeria and two losses over Mali and Cape Verde.

These are qualification pathways to determine the five African teams that will take part at the 2023 FIBA World Cup to be held in Indonesia, Japan, Philippines.
