Uganda’s National Beach Soccer team, the Sand Cranes, picked a deserved away win against Comoros in the Beach Soccer AFCON Qualifiers.

Brian Nkuubi, Meddie Kibirige and Baker Lukooya scored a goal each to add on a brace for debutant Nicholas Mwere.

Uganda take an edge in the tie and will fancy their chances when the two sides meet in Njeru for the return leg on August 6.

The winner over two legs qualify for the 2022 AFCON Beach Soccer that will be held from 21st to 30th October in Maputo, Mozambique.

“I am very happy to represent your country,” said Mwere who scored a double on his debut.

“It feels good to score on your first day and I thank the coaches for having trusted in me and given me the opportunity. And I also have to thank my teammates for the good job.”

The match was played on Sunday morning at Stade de Planete Plage in Moroni, a late change from evening time, to avoid reported heavy ocean waves during that earlier scheduled time.

Uganda seek to return to AFCON after finishing fourth on their debut last year in Senegal.
