City Oilers small forward Luak Ruai has secured a deal to play for Russian side Zenit basketball club, it’s official.
The South Sudan international flew out of the country on Wednesday aboard Ethiopian Airlines, few days after winning the National Basketball League title.
Ruai will play for Zenit 2, a deal that was made possible by his agency RISG.
The Club competes in Russia Super League and are the reigning champions of VTB Youth League.
“The move is a dream come true,” Ruai told The-SportsNation before departure.
“I am looking forward to wining championships and play in the Euro league as well.
“I will miss the brotherhood of City Oilers, we have been through a lot together and managed to get through all the obstacles.”
Ruai, earlier was linked to a move to Tbilisi in Georgia recently in June.
Born June 26 2004, the 6’5ft Ruai leaves City Oilers after less than two years and it has been meteoric rise for the player who won Division One Silver medal with Nam Blazers in 2019.
His first taste of Basketball was in 2016 after his Primary Seven when he joined Kings College Buddo.
Thereafter, he joined Kibuli SS that was under coach Henry Malinga who moulded him into a good player he is today.
In his S.4, he joined Nam Blazers under coach Stephen ‘Esco’ Nyeko and Manager Hajji Farouk Zzinda.
He is a product of IHoops (2017-2019) and DANKID Academy (2019-2022).
