Uganda Hockey Association has announced the appointment of Innocent Raskara as the interim head coach of the national men’s senior team, the Uganda Hockey Cranes.
Raskara, an active player at Wananchi in the National Hockey League replaces Franchesco Richichi on an interim basis.
His appointment comes as Uganda prepares for the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers in South Africa.
In a statement released by the Association, Raskara shall “prepare and lead the team into the Africa Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers.”
The tournament is scheduled to run between 29th October and 5th November at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, with eight nations in the men’s section and seven in the women’s category taking part.
Uganda will compete against Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Zambia and the hosts South Africa for a place in next year’s Olympics in France.
UHA is adamant they have chosen the right man for the job as he “comes with a wealth of experience and deep understanding of the game and current crop of players.”
Raskara is also the current coach of Makerere Stingers competing in the national league.
Raskara’s first assignment will be against Nigeria on 29th as Uganda opens the competition against the West African nation in Group A.
The other group members include Zimbabwe and South Africa.
