The UCU Lady Cardinals are eager to kick off the 2023/24 FUFA Women Super League season on a high note as they prepare to face the Lady Doves this Saturday.

The Cardinals are determined to secure a victory in front of their home crowd in Mukono.

Having finished fourth in the previous season, their primary goal for this season is to contend for the league title.

Coach Christian Magoba expressed the team’s readiness and ambition, stating, “We are ready for the upcoming season, we want not just to participate but compete and compete favorably. We want to be title contenders.”

He emphasized their determination to secure three points against the Lady Doves and highlighted their intention to defend their home turf with a strong performance in their opening game.

It’s worth noting that the UCU Lady Cardinals had to bid farewell to key players Sharon Nadunga and Ashiat Naluggwa, who departed to Lindsey College in the United States.

In the previous season, their match against the Lady Doves in Mukono ended in a 2-2 draw, with Naluggwa scoring twice for the Cardinals, while Norah Alupo and Jowela Nagadya contributed one goal each for the Lady Doves.

The Lady Doves narrowly escaped relegation on the last day of the season, thanks to goal difference.

To strengthen their squad, the Lady Doves have made significant signings, including Marsha Omary from Fountain Gate, Tanzania, and Barbara Aciro, who was previously unattached.

They’ve also brought in Amoding Siporosa and Apiding Cecilia from Olila HS WFC, Winnie Nabbaale from She Corporate, Ciccy Kabarwani from Tooro Queens, Mwanaid Idd Kassim from The Tigers in Tanzania, Dablat Omar from Mbagala, Tanzania, Nankya Joan Tusime from Jinja SS, and Beatrice Batamuriza, who was also unattached.

Lady Doves have lost Naziz Florence (Rines) and Rashida Nankya (Wakiso Hill).
