Preview: All Set for Jinja Derby
Gaddafi FC are determined to build on their recent victory and secure their first home win of the season as they welcome neighbors, Busoga United on match-day five of the Uganda Premier League at Gaddafi Arena in Jinja.
Before their first victory in their previous match against Arua Hill, Gaddafi had suffered three consecutive losses at the start of the season, including defeats in home games against Vipers (1-2) and Kitara (1-2).
However, it’s worth noting that since Gaddafi joined the top tier in the 2021/22 season, they haven’t managed to secure a win against Busoga on their home turf.
Out of the four encounters between Gaddafi and Busoga, Gaddafi has managed to claim two wins, both of which were away victories with scores of 1-0 and 2-1 in November and May of the previous year in that order.
In the same fixture last season, they played to a goalless draw.
“We know how big the game is and we want to use our chances. The win in Arua was a big motivation,” said Gaddafi coach David Mutono.
“We have the character and confidence. We want to be the giants of this region. We want to use the right tactics, and I have trust in my players. We are in good shape to get the job done.”
“Close games like these Derbies are won by coaches’ tactics and character of the players.”
On the other hand, Busoga United are determined to break their losing streak after an unimpressive start to the season.
Since their 1-0 win against Arua Hill in the opener, Busoga United has been unable to secure another victory and hasn’t scored a single goal since.
They suffered losses to newcomers NEC (5-0) and Express (0-2) before playing to a goalless draw against Mbarara City in their most recent game.
Busoga’s only league victory against Gaddafi dates back to October 2021 at Gaddafi Arena, thanks to goals from Elvis Ngonde and Anwar Ntege, who both left the club
Currently, they occupy the 10th position on the league table with four points, and a win could potentially lift them to the eighth spot, provided SC Villa, with five points, fails their test against BUL.
