Riazat Lifts Aziz Damani over Challengers

Riazat Ali Shah’s unbeaten ton of 134 inspired Aziz Damani to a comfortable 137-run win against Challengers on Sunday.

The 25-year-old on his 160th league appearance joined the crease in the 27.3 Over after the fall of Simon Ssesazi (68), but by the end of the innings, he had taken his overall league tally to 3554.

Off 79 balls, ‘Rizu’ destroyed Chellengers bowlers including former Kenyan captain Shem Ngoche.

It rained boundaries in Lugogo courtesy of the all rounder who hit 13 sixes and 5 fours as Damani posted 326 for the loss of five.

Riazat’s knock helped Damani set the second highest score this season, only beaten by Wanderers’ 354/9 against Nyakasura on the opening day of the campaign.

Challengers’ chase ended in the 35th Over after being bundled out with only 189 runs manged.

Alpesh Ramjani who also contributed with the bat (48) and Falak Sher took matters into their own hands in this innings. The duo bowling at No.3 and 2 respectively each plucked 4 wickets.

A huge win for the defending champions, but despite now being level on points (12) with table leaders Aziz Damani Development, it keeps them second by virtue of an inferior run rate.

Challengers meanwhile drop fourth with that loss.

The other league game that was played on Sunday saw Wanderers return to winning ways with a 3-wicket win over Avengers, and by doing so, improved their chances of staying in the league.

Wanderers now need just one point in their remaining two games to confirm safety.

They beat Avengers mostly with the ball as they restricted the relegation threatened to only 82 runs.

Martin Akayezu picked four wickets and team captain Davis Karashani three, but it was the latter who was named the Player of the Match.

Karashani conceded only eleven runs off his eight Overs, and scored 23 runs, the most by any player in that game.

The loss leaves Avengers in the bottom two, and facing the likelihood of getting relegated.

To avoid demotion, Avengers who just three months ago contested a T20 Cup final need to win all their remaining two games and hope ACC, Patidar and Ceylon Lions falter in theirs.
