  3. Beira 1-1
  4. JBC 0-2

The City Oilers aim to secure the top spot in the group as they face Mozambique’s Ferroviario da Beira in their final group game at the ongoing BAL Elite 16 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Having triumphed in both previous matches, the Oilers have all but secured their place in Saturday’s semifinals, where they will meet either hosts Cape Town Tigers or NBA Academy Africa.

They commenced their campaign on Tuesday with a hard-fought 81-76 win against COSPN, followed by an 84-71 victory over JBC on Wednesday.

In the game against JBC, a 15-0 fourth-quarter run sealed their win, preventing the Zimbabwean side from scoring in the last three minutes of the match!

Expressing satisfaction with the team’s performance, Oilers coach Mande Juruni said, “I am pleased with the victory and the determination. JBC presented a formidable team with sharp shooting abilities.”

“Despite their strength in transition, rebounding, and aggression, our team responded remarkably. These games are challenging, but our resilience is commendable. We persisted and showcased our experience when it mattered most,” Juruni added.

Regarding the upcoming match against Beira, Juruni emphasized, “Every game holds immense significance for us, and our aim is to secure a victory to lead the group.”

The Oilers will once again rely on the trio of Parish Petty (22.5), Dane Miller (20), and Germaine Roebuck (12), all averaging double-digit scores.

Petty (29) and Miller (14) combined for 43 points in Wednesday’s match, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Titus Lual Odeke also made a substantial impact, providing nine points and securing 13 rebounds.

In the previous Elite 16 round last season, the Oilers defeated Beira 88-72 to top the group undefeated. Despite losing to Cape Town in the semifinals, they secured a spot in the maiden BAL after claiming victory over Urunani in the third-place match.
