Victoria Pearls Beat Kenya In First Practice Match

In preparations for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, the Victoria Pearls beat Kenya by 7 runs in their first warm-up game.

The two rivals who are both pitted in Group B of the Qualifiers met at the Serenity Oval in Kamengo, and the hosts edged the tie.

Victoria Pearls opening batter and wicket-keeper Kevin Awino, the team’s vice captain Janet Mbabazi, all rounder Stephanie Nampiina and opening bowler Evelyn Anyipo got Uganda past Kenya on Thursday.

Awino was a 35 not out, while Mbabazi and Nampiina got 29 and 19 respectively, and Anyipo picked three wickets off her three Overs.

The two sides were to begin their warm up sessions on Wednesday with two encounters, but both games were washed out.

The two will play their final practice game on Friday at the same venue.

Both Uganda and Kenya are preparing for the Entebbe qualifier that is a pathway to next year’s World Cup in Bangladesh. The top two sides from this qualifier will proceed to the Global Qualifiers as African representatives.

Uganda featured at the globals for only their first time in 2018 in the Netherlands after winning the African Regional Qualifiers held in Namibia in 2017.
