Mamelodi Sundowns made a resounding statement in their CAF Champions League group stage debut, dominating Mauritian side FC Nouadhibou with a commanding 3-0 victory at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

The South African giants, Masandawana, showcased their prowess in scorching conditions, securing their first win in the group stages.

The goals came from Lucas Ribeiro, Peter Shalulile, and Gaston Sirino, cementing their dominance on the field.

The breakthrough arrived in the first half when Khuliso Mudau orchestrated a swift counter-attack, culminating in Lucas Ribeiro netting his maiden group stage goal.

Moments later, Peter Shalulile, continuing his impressive form since his return from injury, doubled the lead by heading home Marcelo Allende’s corner.

The second half saw substitute Gaston Sirino play a pivotal role. His surge forward drew a cynical foul from Nouadhibou’s Diop, leading to the opponent’s goalkeeper receiving a red card, reducing them to 10 men.

Stepping up for the resultant free-kick, Sirino calmly converted, sealing the convincing win for the yellow-clad team.

With a powerful display of attacking football, The Brazilians of Mamelodi Sundowns concluded the match with a three-goal haul, collecting a valuable three points to commence their CAF Champions League group stage journey on a winning note.
