New UPL fixture here:
The much-anticipated clash between Express FC and SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League has been given a new date by the league’s Secretariat.
The derby, initially set for November 1, is now slated for Friday, December 8, 2023, to take place at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
This alteration comes as a consequence of the FUFA suspending all matches involving Express FC recently.
The decision was instigated by the distressing events that transpired after Express FC’s match against UPDF, where Assistant Referee Fahad Sekayiba suffered a severe attack by unidentified individuals suspected to be Express fans.
Following the 1-1 draw away to UPDF on October 27, the referees unanimously decided to blacklist Express FC due to the alarming assault on Sekayiba. The assailants targeted the referees’ car, assaulting Sekayiba and causing him critical injuries.
In response to this incident, the FUFA Executive took swift action, suspending all games involving Express FC until the investigations into the assault are concluded and a resolution is reached.
The resolution has since been reached.
One of the postponed games, Express FC versus Wakiso Giants, has already been played, resulting in a goalless draw at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakissha.
Notably, SC Villa emerged victorious in their encounters against Express FC last season, securing a 2-0 win as hosts and a 2-1 victory when Express hosted the fixture.
