Preview: Bright Stars Target Second Win
Bright Stars will aim for their second win of the season as they host Arua Hill on matchday nine of the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba.
In the current season, they’ve secured only one win and drawn four out of eight matches, scoring eight goals and conceding ten, currently placed 13th on the league table.
Their sole victory this season occurred about three weeks ago, a 3-2 triumph against Busoga United at Kavumba. Last week, they earned a well-deserved point against Gaddafi FC in Jinja, setting the stage for their encounter with Arua Hill, a team they’ve never defeated in the UPL.
In a previous encounter where they hosted Arua Hill last season, Isaac Ogwang’s early goal sealed their defeat, fostering a desire for revenge this time.
Bright Stars head Coach Joseph Mutyaba stated: “Arua Hill is a tough opponent, having secured their first win against UPDF but we’re prepared to use all our strengths to beat them.”
“Our players are fully committed to delivering their best performance. Our goal is to stop conceding and secure a clean sheet while aiming for a position within the top 9.”
A win would significantly alleviate their position, potentially lifting them out of the red zone, at least temporarily, climbing to 9th place.
Meanwhile, Arua Hill arrives at Kavumba following their first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over UPDF at Adjumani in their previous match.
However, Arua Hill has yet to secure a single point in away games this season, having only scored one goal while conceding six, leading to their current position at the bottom of the table with only four points from eight games.
Despite their struggles, Arua Hill hasn’t lost a game against Bright Stars since joining the UPL in 2021, boasting three wins out of four league meetings, including last season’s double-header.
A win for Arua Hill could potentially lift them above the bottom two temporarily, offering some respite from their position on the table, if only for a day.
