A solitary goal from left-back Hakim Bugingo in the 12th minute of the game handed Rayon Sports a well deserved 1-0 victory over Bugesera in the Rwanda Premier League on Friday, December 1.
The Rayon front trio comprising of Rharb Youssef alongside Ugandan forwards Musa Esenu and Joackim Ojera was so efficient, but Ugandan goalkeeper Simon Tamale swiftly stole the show as he saved a penalty, and consequently kept a clean sheet at the Kigali Pele Stadium.
The goalkeeper, alongside fellow countryman, Charles Bbaale after impressive campaigns with Maroons and SC Villa respectively in the Uganda Premier League left to join the Rwandan club, linking up with compatriots Esenu and Ojera.
Tamale has quickly established himself as the club’s first choice goalkeeper. His impressive form right upon arrival saw him being nominated in the best of the month of October at the Rwandan club.
The custodians commendable contribution has guided the Kigali-based club to the fourth position on the table with 20 points from eleven games, having lost just once, won five matches and drawn as many times.
Tied on nine with Kigali, Rayon have conceeded the fourth least number of goals in the league. Only table leaders APR (6), second placed Musanze (7) and third placed Police (8) have conceeded fewer goals respectively.
