The vibrant Friday Night Lights (FNL) basketball is making its grand return, promising a bigger and better experience.
The sports-meets-showbiz extravaganza is back after its last appearance in 2019, kicking off this Friday, December 8, at the Hockey Grounds in Lugogo and continuing for three weeks.
Tom Ocamringa, the FNL Team Leader, expressed, “We aim for an exciting event that encapsulates the fusion of basketball and celebrity.”
“Our focus is to merge regular basketball with celebrity players, elevating the status of these top players and providing fans with the chance to engage with them on court, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of interaction.”
Discussing the choice of the Lugogo Hockey pitch as the venue, Ocamringa stated, “We sought a larger venue to host a grand basketball spectacle.”
“We aimed for a facility capable of accommodating various activities, attracting a wider audience beyond just basketball enthusiasts.”
“In Kampala’s event landscape, FNL aims to be a crowd-puller, irrespective of whether attendees are players or simply there to relish the game.”
Ocamringa highlighted that this edition of FNL will be shorter to align with the adjusted National Basketball League (NBL) calendar, with the Leagues beginning in January next year.
Starting this Friday, December 8, 2023, eight teams will compete for supremacy at the Lugogo Hockey Pitch, culminating in the final showdown on Friday, December 22, 2023, after an interim face-off on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Castle Lite Beer not only headlines this year’s edition but also extends its sponsorship for the subsequent two editions, reinforcing its commitment to thrilling basketball and entertainment enthusiasts.
Ibrahim Nkwanga, Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) Trade Marketing Representative, mentioned, “Castle Lite Beer consistently aligns with brands that resonate with the youth, and FNL perfectly embodies this ethos.”
He added, “Let’s unwind over the next three Fridays, savoring an extra cold Castle Lite Beer, and relish the thrilling basketball action at FNL.”
NRG, Uganda’s prominent youth-centric radio station, joins as FNL’s vibes partner.
Christine Mawadri, NRG Head of Business, declared, “NRG encapsulates the essence of FNL and more, promising heightened fan-player interactions across not just radio but also our social media platforms, ensuring an unparalleled FNL experience.”
Since its inception in 2011, FNL has been Uganda’s premier sports-entertainment event, offering a unique blend of basketball, music, food, beverages, and diverse entertainment.
To bolster participation in the 9th edition, FNL2023 plans activation drives in Entebbe and at Abja Basketball Court in Naalya, Kampala. The event will feature increased fan engagements, challenges, and gift hamper giveaways.
The victorious team and standout players will receive various gifts in recognition of their performance.
