FUFA Executive Committee Member Rogers Byamukama has revealed that the Uganda U18 National Team will be rewarded with a handsome cash prize after winning the CECAFA U18 Boys Championship in Kisumu, Kenya.
In the final played on Friday, December 8 2023 at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Syphas Owuor Otieno had given Kenya the lead in the 61st minute, but Uganda fought back to win the game.
Okello Batiibwe in the 77th minute and Hakim Mutebi in the first minute of extra time respectively scored for Uganda to win 2-1 and claim the regional U18 title.
As noted by Byamukama, every member of the Uganda U18 contingent will get a cash prize of $1,000 (around UGX3,600,00).
“When you go back, each one of you will have 1000 dollars on your account,” Byamukama, who was representing FUFA president Moses Magogo confirmed after the victory.
“FUFA is proud of each one of you, and we’re looking to build a team as we gear for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations,” the EXCOM member added.
Meanwhile, SC Villa’s Mutebi, who scored Uganda’s winner in the final was also eventually named the tournament’s MVP.
Uganda ensured hosts Kenya settled for silver, while Tanzania beat Rwanda to walk away with bronze.
