Maroons FC concluded the first round of the league on a high note with a commanding 4-2 victory over UPDF at Luzira.

Edward Kabona, Fred Amaku and David Ndihabwe found the net for Maroons, propelling them to third place in the standings with 28 points.

Despite Farid Rashid’s brace for UPDF, scoring from Muwada Mawejje’s cross and creating his own space for a superb goal, it wasn’t enough as they suffered their seventh defeat in the last eight games, finishing the first round in 15th place with only nine points.

Kabona equalized for Maroons from Abraham Tusubira’s corner kick, while Amaku’s dazzling display led to his eighth goal of the season just before halftime.

Ndihabwe added a well-placed shot for the host’s third goal, followed by Abel Etru’de’s header from Darius Ojok’s cross to seal the 4-2 victory.

The game saw several close chances, including Amaku’s denied header by the crossbar and a second-half opportunity saved by UPDF’s goalkeeper, before the striker was forced off injured later in the match.

Maroons will kick off their second round against SC Villa on February 10 after a one-month league break, while UPDF will face Kitara at Bombo on February 7.
