In a surprising move, Ndejje University has decided to disband its football team, the Ndejje University Lions, currently competing in the FUFA Big League.
The University management attributes this decision to financial constraints, although the other affiliated teams including Volleyball and Basketball teams remain unaffected.
This season has proven to be a challenging campaign for the Ndejje football team, ending the first round second from the bottom with 10 points, trailing by 6 points from safety.
The team’s struggle is further compounded by the unfortunate passing of their head coach, Raymond Komakech, last year, who battled a severe kidney problem.
Founded in 2009, Ndejje University was among the original clubs in the FUFA Big League and achieved promotion to the Uganda Premier League after clinching the Elgon group title in the 2017/2018 season.
However, their stint in the top flight was short-lived as they faced relegation after just one season.
This decision to dissolve the football team marks the end of an era for Ndejje University Lions, leaving fans and the football community in reflection on the club’s journey and contributions to Ugandan football since its inception.
