In a commanding display, the Atlas Lions of Morocco secured a resounding 3-0 victory over Tanzania at the Stade Laurent Pokou in their opening match at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023.
Right from the kick-off, Morocco asserted their dominance, controlling the game and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities. The breakthrough came as Hakim Ziyech’s free kick was parried by Salum Manula, only for Roman Saiss to capitalize and give Morocco a 1-0 lead.
Tanzania’s challenges deepened when Novatus Miroshi received his second yellow card in the 70th minute, reducing them to ten men and further facilitating Morocco’s control. Azzedine Ounahi extended the lead to 2-0 with a powerful strike in the 77th minute, displaying clinical finishing.
Yousseff En Nesyri sealed the victory with Morocco’s third goal, exhibiting composure inside the penalty area after a precise pass from Achraf Hakimi. Despite a VAR review, the goal stood, concluding the match 3-0 in favor of Morocco.
Looking ahead, Morocco is set to face DR Congo while the Taifa Stars will meet Zambia.
