Uganda Premier League (UPL) side UPDF FC has confirmed the signing of South Sudan international goalkeeper Richard Anyama Richard from Arua Hill SC.
Anyama, who was part of the now defunct The Saints FC (rebranded to UPDF FC) has rejoined the club on a short term deal that will expire at the end of the 2023/24 season.
According to reports, Police FC and KCCA had also inquired about his availability, but the army side needed him the most, so they put in more efforts to get him, and they finally signed him.
The player had earlier this week already bid farewell to the Westnile-based club in an emotional message;
“The pain strikes deep into me whenever I realize that I am departing away from my beautiful club Arua Hill SC, the club that has rendered me with beautiful memories, the best from all I’d ever had so far in this world.”
“I shall forever remain a Kongolo. All the best to the Arua Hill fraternity. It’s been an amazing three and a half seasons,” the goalkeeper expressed.
The time Anyama spent at Arua Hill brought out the best in him, he joined the then Arua-based club in 2020 and helped them gain promotion to the UPL. The same season, he was also voted the 2020/21 goalkeeper of the season in the FUFA Big Beague.
In the 2022/22 season, Anyama emerged as Best Goalkeeper of the season after keeping upto eleven clean sheets in the UPL.
The goalkeeper now brings with him to the Bombo-based UPL side a wide range of experience, having also previously played for Onduparaka and Wakiso Giants in the top flight division.
He finds UPDF in the red zone, second last on the 16-team UPL table with just nine points from 15 games – only above his former club Arua Hill who have managed just five points in the first round.
