Finally after a long wait, Kampala Hockey Club, Swans have broken the jinx.
The Swans landed themselves a first league title on Saturday after what has been an incredible season.
Given their dominance throughout the campaign and their position prior the final game, Saturday was just an icing on the cake.
The ladies in red went into the game with the tag ‘champions in wait’ as nothing realistic would stop them from lifting the long awaited trophy. And what a way to crown a remarkable season!
Makerere University provided opposition for KHC in the final game. The difference in quality between the two teams pointed to one thing- a KHC win. The latter didn’t even have to win to be crowned champions, but no, they wanted to end the season in style.
They pummeled the Campusers 12-0, with siblings Lucky Akello and Winnie Alaro each bagging four goals. Sanne Swinkles added two while Franziska Masenbrink and Sarah Ahabwe each scored one.
The result was just a reminder of how good the Swans have been. With those twelve goals, they end the season as the best attacking side in the league with 86 goals scored in total.
They also end the season as the best defensive side as they conceded only five goals the entire season.
And with Akello, KHC have the season’s top scorer. Her four against Makerere took her tally to 27 goals.
Kampala Swans wrap up the league with 38 points three ahead of second placed Weatherhead and eleven ahead of Wananchi who had won this league a record five times in a row.
