Uganda Premier League (UPL) and Uganda Cup defending Champions Vipers SC have been handed a big injury boost, after two players returned to full team training.
After so many weeks out with injuries, goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza and defender Hillary Mukundane are all back in action for the Kitende-based side ahead of their league cup tie later on this month, and the second round of the league early next month.
“Alfred Mudekereza is back training and feeling fit,” Vipers confirmed earlier on this week.
“You can’t control injuries, but you can control how hard you work to come back. Happy to be back on the field of play,” Mukundane posted on his Facebook account after playing in a friendly for Vipers on Saturday.
Both Mukundane and Mudekereza started for Vipers and kept a clean-sheet as Mohamed Salem Ekbad and Eric Kenzo Kambale scored for the Venoms to overcame FUFA 3rd division (Buganda Regional League) side, Simba FC 2-0 in a practice match.
The friendly match was part of the Venoms’ preparations as they plan to start their Uganda Cup title-defence in the round of 64 next week.
The 3-times Uganda Cup winners will visit Buganda region third division side, Lugazi Stars FC at Mehta Stadium on Monday 29th January, 2024.
In the league, Vipers, after 15 games currently sit second on the 16-team UPL table with 30 points (3 less than leaders BUL with 33). They will return to league action on 7th February with an away trip to struggling Arua Hill.
