The SMACK League, one of the premier alumni sports leagues, is gearing up for an exhilarating finale set to unfold this Sunday at Legends Grounds in Lugogo.
The league, which unites the alumni of St. Mary’s College Kisubi, has seen remarkable growth in Season 6, boasting a 66% year-on-year increase in average attendance.
In a nail-biting showdown, the Outkasts and Zimbas, both tied at 39 points, will clash for ultimate glory. The Mafiaz are hot on their heels with 38 points, while the reigning champions, Zulus, find themselves at the bottom of the log, unable to defend their title.
Jonan Kato, the league’s Chief Marketing Officer, expressed pride in the season’s growth, highlighting a total of 510 goals and 373 assists across all teams.
Bernard Mukasa, CEO of the SMACK League, sees the finale as a celebration of progress and a renewal of commitment to the league’s objectives.
Guinness Uganda has played a pivotal role in Season 6, complementing the football experience for fans. The season featured 20 teams competing in 190 matches over nine months.
Roy Tumwizere, Guinness Brand Manager, promised an unforgettable experience at the grand finale with an exciting entertainment lineup.
The league will also recognize outstanding individuals and teams at the awarding ceremony, including categories such as the Golden Boot Award, Best Goalkeeper Award, Most Valuable Player Award, Season Champions, Runners-Up, and the Fair Play Award.
Abaasi Muluya of the Block Owners is vying for the Golden Boot Award with 15 goals, while Derrick Walugembe of the Zimbaz is tipped for the Most Valuable Player Award, boasting 10 goals and 9 assists.
The league’s sponsors, including Captain Morgan, Flexipay, Stone Castle Inn, Prudential, Soccanett, 88.2 Sanyu FM, Legends, Events Limited, and Cavendish University, have contributed to the success of Season 6.
