In a nail-biting title decider at Legends Lugogo, the Zimbaz, Class of 2006, clinched victory in The SMACK League’s sixth season, sponsored by Guinness.
The alumni event, uniting former students of St. Mary’s College Kisubi, witnessed the Zimbaz securing a 3-2 win against Tsunamiz in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
George Aporu’s decisive goal ensured the Zimbaz’s triumphant comeback, having started the season on a challenging note, finishing 19th in the previous season’s log.
Joseph Sixtus Kawooya, Chairman of Zimbaz, expressed pride in the team’s dedication and thanked the fans for their unwavering support.
The Zimbaz not only claimed the championship trophy but also scooped additional accolades, including the Golden Glove, Coach of the Season, Most Improved Team, Networker of the Season, and Best Matchday Hosts.
The trophy presentation, attended by Chief Guest Andrew Kilonzo and Guest of Honour Joseph Balikuddembe, featured an emotional victory dance by the Zimbaz.
Top individual performers were also recognized, with Kasadha Denis as the Top Scorer, Micheal Kitaka as the MVP Footballer, and joint Golden Glove awardees Kwagala Peter Pax and Muramuzi Edwin.
The afterparty, fueled by the official beverage sponsor Guinness, resonated with the day’s jubilation. Guinness Brand Manager Roy Tumwizere expressed excitement about providing an unforgettable experience, emphasizing the commitment to the league.
The festivities reached a crescendo with a captivating performance by Janzi Band and a show-stopping appearance by “Firebaby” Winnie Nwagi.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Nwagi delivered stellar renditions of her chart-topping hits, bringing the SMACK League’s sixth season to a memorable close.
