UCU Lady Canons, riding high on a dominant opening victory, aim to continue their winning streak in the 2024 National Basketball League against UPDF Lady Tomahawks at Lugogo.

The Mukono-based team secured an impressive 78-28 triumph with a 50-point margin over Kampala University Ladies at YMCA court in Wandegeya.

Hajara Najuuko showcased her prowess by scoring 15 points, complemented by strong performances from Tracy Namugosa (14 points) and Shakira Nanvubya (12 points).

Coach Nicholas Natuhereza, retaining most of last season’s semifinalist roster, has added talents like Martina Anyango and Divine Akachukwu to bolster the team.

The Lady Canons, who missed out on the League finals last season after an about 15-year streak, displayed defensive prowess, limiting Kampala University to just two points in an entire second quarter.

However, facing UPDF Lady Tomahawks poses a new challenge. The newcomers secured a walkover win against YMCA Lady Hamsters in their debut match.

UPDF Lady Tomahawks, in their inaugural season, clinched the Women Division title last year with an unbeaten campaign featuring 27 wins.

Mutesi Nasimu, a notable new signing from Tigers, joins forces with key player Lunkuse Stella Maris, adding strength to the formidable Tomahawks lineup.
