KIU Titans Seek Redemption in Showdown Against UCU

Friday, February 2
•UCU Lady Canons Vs KCCA Leopards – 7pm
•KIU Titans Vs UCU Canons – 9pm

KIU Titans will hope to make amends when they meet UCU Canons at the ongoing 2024 National Basketball League season this Friday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The Titans are looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to their campaign, suffering a 59-63 defeat against Nam Blazers last Friday.

Determined to turn the tide, the Titans are poised for a stronger performance with hopes of securing maximum points.

Despite their resolve, the team faces challenges as new signing Ivan Lumanyika remains sidelined due to ongoing rehabilitation for fitness issues.

Additionally, the absence of point guard Joel Lukoji, who is yet to return to training, adds to the team’s hurdles.

Key to the Titans’ strategy will be the impressive duo of recent acquisitions, Kasereka Tembo and Mpiya Juf, who showcased their talent with debut scores of 18 and 13 points, respectively.

The Titans are keen to improve upon their last outing where the bench contributed only 9 points, and they struggled with a 47-50 rebound deficit, missing 28 of their 32 three-point attempts.

On the opposing side, the UCU Canons are eyeing a second consecutive victory following a triumphant 69-58 win against the Kampala Rockets.

Notably, they achieved success without the contribution of guard Brian Jimmy Otim. In that game, key players like Peter Sifuma managed just 8 points in limited playing time of 16 minutes.

Reflecting on past encounters, UCU narrowly edged the KIU Titans 69-68 in the first round of the previous season. However, KIU retaliated with a convincing 73-55 victory in the second round.

Then, the Titans secured a 3-0 series sweep against UCU in the best of five semifinals series to reach the finals.
