Cricket: All Set For The 2019 Boys Schools Tournament

The 2019 Boys Schools Cricket Tournament is scheduled to take place from the 25th August to 1st September 2019.

This year the tournament has grown to 14 from 12 schools last year, the schools came through the respective Regional qualification process as follows – Ntare School and Nyakasura School (Western Region), Jinja Senior Secondary School, Busoga High School, Kira College Butiki and Busoga College Mwiri (Eastern Region), Masaka Senior Secondary School (South Western Region), Kings College Budo, Mukono Parents School, Kololo Senior Secondary School, Kyambogo College School, and St John High School (Central Region) and Teso College Aloet (Soroti Region).

Makerere College School was granted a wild card entry this year as the host school.

Busoga College Mwiri is the defending champion and will be looking at winning their 18th title.

This year’s event will include a schools’ select side game against the Bagurusi immediately after the final. The participants will be hosted at Makerere College School.

The tournament will be played at 5 Cricket Grounds namely; Lugogo, Kyambogo, Kings College Budo, Ndejje and Gayaza High School with a total of two (2) matches played per day.

On conclusion of this tournament, the best 20 players shall be selected to attend a 7-day training academy at Lugogo/Kampala, and upon conclusion of the academy, a team of 14 players will be selected to travel to Rwanda in October to play a series of games against their Rwandan counterparts, with this team forming the backbone of our U19 team.

Uganda Cricket Association along with International Cricket Council, Metro Tyres, Aziz Damani Sports Club and Bankstown Cricket Club will be Sponsoring the 2019 edition of the Boys Schools Cricket Week tournament.
