Express FC head coach George Ssemwogerere has said that it will take some good time for his side to play entertaining football.
The coach was booed off during the game and at the final whistle despite beating Paidha Black Angels 2-0 for his first home win in the league.
Ssemwogerere who has been under scrutiny for what many have termed as poor team selection, left forwards Tony Odur, Michael Birungi and Eric Kambale on the bench against a weak opposition who is at the foot of the log.
The Red Eagles struggled to break Paidha Black Angels even when the Zombo-based side had a man sent off in the 40th minute, until the introduction of Odur and Birungi who both scored a goal each to seal a hard fought 2-0 victory.
When asked to comment about his team’s general performance, the former Express FC captain explained:
“I think we played for the win and we managed to get it, playing at home comes with too much pressure but am happy that we won.”
Commenting on the matter of why his side looked the second best on the day, he added:
“Playing good football will not come abrupt, it will take time. I have to continue teaching these boys many things but best thing for now is that we managed to take maximum points.”
Express FC, as it has been the case in their last games, struggled to retain possession, looked poor going forward and were utterly vulnerable at the back every time they lost the ball.
Isaac Mutanga was panicking, Ibrahim Kayiwa and Lawrence Kigonya failed to command proceedings in the middle of the park while forwards Brian Umony and Mubarak Nsubuga looked clueless as they failed to get adequate supply from Disan Galiwango and Frank Zaga Tumwesigye.
To justify his selections, Ssemwogerere added:
“I had to regulate the time of my players since most of them had FUFA Drum action over the weekend, but also I can’t rush Kambale as he is just returning from injury, so he is supposed to play for about 15 minutes as he continues to be monitored by the doctors.”
Express FC move two places up to ninth on the log with 32 points.
Next for Express are back to back Kampala derbies – A home game against SC Villa on April 11 before visiting KCCA FC at Lugogo on April 20.
