All Africa Games: Uganda Boxers Stranded

Uganda Boxing Federation has suspended an ongoing National Boxing team training till further notice due to inadequate funds.

The team has been holding a non residential camp at Lugogo in preparations for the All Africa Games due August 19-31 in Morocco.

Empty: Missing on action

“Yes it is true,” affirmed UBF President Moses Muhangi when contacted to confirm the development. “Bombers training camp ahead of All Africa games has been suspended due to lack of resources.”

Muhangi revealed that the Sh53M the federation received from National Council of Sports (as Government funding) is not enough to even meet the earlier incurred debts.

UBF President Muhangi speaking to the press recently

“We need a minimum of about Sh130M to resume camp, this money is meant to cater for allowances of both coaches and boxers, medical bills, food, training equipment, access to private gyms for training since the national gym cant be accessed.”

Consequently, the camp has been suspended till further notice as they try to solicit for funds from various funds.

The huge blow comes not more than two months away ahead of the continental event in Morocco, and this may see Uganda sent a weak team to represent the country in Morocco.
