Uganda Beat Tanzania To Qualify To FIBA Africa U16 Championship

Uganda’s U16 girls Basketball team, the junior Gazelles managed to beat Tanzania and seal a single slot available for the 2019 FIBA Africa U16 Championship set later this year.

Uganda led 18-11 in the first quarter but it was the only resistance Tanzania put up before falling in the next quarters 14-7, 22-9 and 24-9 in that order.

Maria Najjuma put up a monstrous performance with 35 points and 34 Rebounds. Aber Lamunu also had a double double of 21 points and 14 rebounds.

The result leaves Uganda with three wins from as many games. This was the second win against Tanzania after beating the side 58-39. They also beat Rwanda 63-55 in the other game.

Uganda qualifies to the tourney for the fourth time. They debuted in 2008 before going back in 2016. They qualified in 2018 by a wild card.

Uganda will return to action on Saturday against hosts Rwanda, who will also play as hosts at the FIBA Africa U16 Girls Championship later this year – Hence, they qualified automatically.
