Former UCU Lady Canons’ point guard Rosine Micomyiza has made the final cut squad that will represent Rwanda at the FIBA Zone Five Championship in Kampala set on June 26.
Micomyiza was part of UCU’s golden generation that won a three-peat after joining the Mukono based University in 2015. She left early this year to return to her country in Rwanda after acquiring a degree in Business Administration.
Rwanda will compete with Kenya, Uganda and Egypt among the confirmed countries in what promises to be an interesting tourney in Kampala.
Rosine is expected to face former teammates at UCU that include Uganda’s duo Zainah Lokwameri (UCU), Judith Ayo Nansobya (KCCA Leopards) and Rita Imanishimwe (JKL), and also Kenya’s Christine Akinyi and Vilma Achieng among others.
Rwanda has been training regularly for Zone Five since April 9 at Amahoro Stadium but have intensified their trainings with a residential camp at La Palisse Hotel on Wednesday.
The final team named on Wednesday, has three players that were part of the U18 team that won the U18 zone five in Tanzania before finishing fourth on the continent in Mozambique.
Hope Butera, Joyeuse Sifa and Faustine Mwizerwa.
Romania based Tierra Henderson who plays with Universitatea Cluj, is expected to arrive on Saturday.
