UPL: KCCA FC Coach Mutebi Predicts Tough Title Contest

KCCA FC gaffer Mike Mutebi believes that this year’s title contest will be a close one to call.

Its still early in the season – just after one matchday – and the gaffer believes that there are many teams that have a chance to win the UPL title.

Mutebi who was speaking ahead of his match day two tie against Busoga United on Tuesday, said that the title contest will not be a two horse race.

“It will not be just a KCCA – Vipers affair,” Mutebi told journalists on Monday morning at Lugogo.

“There will be a lot of competition and that am sure. Mbarara City FC have grown and URA FC have been here in this contest before so there is no surprise that they have already set the pace.

“I am sure this will be a six horse race and one to watch out for.”

In his coments, Mutebi never revealed the other two teams beside Vipers, KCCA, URA and Mbarara that will be in the six horse race but credited Wakiso Giants’ organisation and experience, a team they beat 1-0 in their league opener.

It should be noted that only URA FC and Express FC have won the UPL title outside KCCA and Vipers/Bunamwaya in the last 14 years.

The two – KCCA (5)and Vipers (2) – have shared the title amongst themselves in the last seven years.

Express FC won it 2011/12 while URA have it four times – 2010/11, 2008/09, 2006-2007 and 2006.
