The Africa 5s tourney, a social football league, is set for it’s return for the third year.

Uganda will be seeking to defend it’s title in the Women category: The team of Vanessa Karungi, Brenda Nabisaalu, Wilmer Nantumbwe, Sarah Namulindwa, Memory Nampijja and Brenda Makanga beat Tanzania 1-0 last year.

The launch of the third edition was held in Lagos, Nigeria by Football legend and former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Cameroon star Samuel Eto’o Fils.

This year’s edition will be held in South Africa between 16th to 20th of July.

“This year’s edition is very special because the number of teams have been doubled. We started with eight but we are having more eight to make it 16 in total,” said Nile Special brand manager Francis Nyende.

Uganda will go head to head with Nigeria, Ghana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Mauritius, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Cameroon, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Uganda, just like other countries, will hold a national playoff to determine the representative.

“It’s going to be more competitive, we are the champions in Women and very eager to defend our title. We hope to do better in the men’s category as well. They didn’t concede a goal until the finals last year and will hope to leave a mark.

“We are very excited, we are going to include super fans to join the teams to go and represent Uganda. This is a biggest social tourney run by a brand.”

Uganda, under Nile Special, will have its entry dates on March 6 to April 25.

The two finalists of the tournament in South Africa will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to watch the Italian Serie A derby between AC Milan and Inter Milan later in the year.
