AFCON U17: TFF Under Investigation For Misuse of funds

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) is under investigation by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) for alleged mismanagement of funds that was issued out for the Africa Cup of Nations Under-17 tournament.

The championship was held in Tanzania last year, won by Cameroon.

The PCCB has been questioning all parties involved, including TFF General secretary Wilfred Kidao and the officials from the sports ministry and National Sports Council.

The next person to be questioned is TFF boss Wallace Karia.

About Sh3.8bn, including sh1bn from President John Magufuli, was meant to finance the U-17 AFCON tourney.

The PCCB director general, Brigadier General John Mbungo said that they need to be sure before announcing the final results, according to reports in Tanzania.

The AFCON U17 tourney is a biennial international youth football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for players aged 17 and below.

Last year, hosts Tanzania performed poorly, coming bottom of group A, losing all the games including a 3-0 loss to Uganda.

Cameroon were eventual winners of the eight-team tourney.
